Looking at our poll we find that our apocalyptic commandos are least prepaired to fight robots.
So here we go. There are three main kinds of robot threats-
1) Robots programmed to attack by our enemies
2) Robots Malfuntioning
3) Robots with Artificial Intelligence that have decided to eliminate us
Let's look at these individually, from least to most dangerous robot
1) Probably the least dangerous robot is the "sock puppet" robot. These robots will be as fast and intelligent as the people that design and control them. The strenght of these robots is that by being controlled by a human, thay will know how to act and respond to your typical human behavior. The weakness of these robots in that they need to transmit and recieve data. So to exploit this weakness you will need to damage or negate the way they recieve this information. Typical egoism will cause us to put all of the sensory equipment in the head like area. (Probably aliens will as well, as a central area such as a head for recieving information is an evolutionary adantage). Aim at this area to break this communication. Even something as simple as thrown mud could change the playing feild. This would render these robot useless, unless thay had other ways to retrieve data. (such as heat sensing). If you can find the controller "cut off the head and the body will fall"
Now what if the robot is programmed to kill? This is slightly harder but the same rules apply to "Killbots". You cannot fight a war of attrition as robots do not tire as readily. One advantage you have over a prgram is to change to an element the programmer did not forsee. Even a damaged leg will render a killbot useless because it has no A.I to compensate.
2) Malfunctioning robots- I put this on here as it is a sci-fi staple. But this is as unlikely as your computer becoming a washer and dryer. Such a thing cannot exist. Either someone needs to put it there (#1) or it needs A.I. (#3)
3) Artificial intelligence is viewed by many theoretical physicists as a great threat to humanity. As soon as computers can learnthey will pass us up in a matter of hours (computers all ready can process more information than us). If this happens and they decide to eliminate us, probably because we are innefficient and use more power then they will, we are petty screwed. People think that we could instal a "kill switch" that wouls shut them all down. But such intelligent robots could easily disable. Thier plan would be very calculated and probably unnoticeable They could monitor everything we do and control our media. We would probably never notice. But if they slipped up there is only one wat to fight back EMPs! Electro magnetic pulses, thay are the silver bullet here. A large one could shut down every single robot on the earth. True, it would set us back to the stone age but it would be worth it. They are also quite easy to make. They work very complicated so if interested go look it up on wikipedia. Basically it will go through the robot defense untill they are all hunks of metal.
Fight on!
It could happen #1- Anarchy
There are many nay-sayers. They fight for and believe strongly in the status quo. In this new feature we will discuss the feasibility of world ending calamities. Not as much how to survive but the scientific and historical evidence that should keep your eyes to the skies.
Could it really happen?
It is said that the world is just one empty plate away from total anarchy. Many of us can believe that many poorer, undeveloped countries would easily fall into anarchy. But that would never happen in the established countries like the UK or Japan or The united states.
I wouldn't be so sure.
I'm going to focus on the united states, both because that is where i live and I think few people would ever even consider that it could be torn apart in a revolution. But i suggest that it could and soon. (If you would like to submit a article about another country E-mail me at equaltocody@yahoo.com)
Historical precedence
History books tend to gloss over the nasty details of a nations past, and the relatively young America is no exception. We all know about Lincoln and Washington and Roosevelt. But we skip past the lesser know presidents like Hoover. Sure you know the name, and if your good at history you might even know his unpopularity. But unless you are a history major it's a safe bet you have never heard of the bonus army.
Sure, the stock market fell and times were tough, but there was allot more going on than just that. The great depression was in full swing, 500 farmers marched onto government reserves and forced the red cross to give out food for their starving families. Criminals broke into houses and killed just to loot simple food for their families. Uncle Sam pumped money into big business hoping for a trickle down effect. The an estimated 43 000 (17 000 of them war veterans) people marched onto capital hill and demanded money from the government that they felt they deserved.
When congress denied them their payment they rioted. The President responded by authorizing Military force to rid the capitol, men baring swords on horses, armed soldiers and even small tanks. Shots were fired Innocent men died and the make shift dwellings were set on fire. This was the start of a revolution. One of the politicians involved in the conflict was driving out in his fathers limo thought to himself "This could very well be the beginning of another American revolution, this time the rich against the poor."
Luckily, Roosevelt was able to regain control of the country, but this could have changed the course of American history and it could happen again.
Today like yesterday
There are many close parallels between current events and what happened in the past. The Stock market has fallen The Government pumps 700 billion into big business hoping for a trickle down effect. The country is just as hungry for change today as in years past.
Lets say things get worse. The economy bottoms out, the executives at AIG continue to use taxpayer money for spa retreats as people starve to death. President Obama fails to deliver on his promises. The feelings of resentment that middle America and lower class America towards the ruling class are multiplied by hunger. The car manufacturing plants close down. Someone is going to make a move, and Those in power will put it down. Except today is different. Recording equipment is cheap and the Internet can spread news instantly. News will hit the east and west coast within minutes. Feelings of patriotism die and it becomes us and them. Even the more timid will feel justified in robbing the rich neighbor. And then it all falls apart. Something will need to take it's place but what? Who knows, it'll depend on what leaders arise, and if they are corrupt or peaceful, selfish or selfless. But for a period anarchy will be there, so prepare yourself.
Is it likely? maybe. Is it possible? definitely.
I hope you like this new feature. Should we continue it? Let me know.

Unlikely Weapons #2 Sock full of Coins
TGIF my Apocalyptic Commandos! Today is a special day! My search of the Internets has shown that they are lacking in articles about socks full of coins... so...
When the world’s richest man falls to the ground, a baby alien exploding from his chest, Warren Buffet's fortune becomes just a pile of fancy green paper and cheap metal pieces. The invaders confiscating our weapon supply, from the White House bunker to the red light district gun shop. That is when a man’s resourcefulness becomes his key to survival. Fortunately, they are sure to overlook mankind’s most dangerous weapon components…
Socks and coins
Even when we were kids we would put a rolled up sock in another tube sock and we would hit our brothers, this was not child's play. It was training.
How to make
I'm not going to go in depth about which coins or socks contribute to the most effective weapon. A sock of pennies with equal mass as a sock of quarters will act about the same, or any hard heavy thing for that matter. My personal preferences is dollar coins or the 2 euro coins.
Heavy, sharp objects like nails, bolts and screws can do good damage as well, but may rip the sock.
Let's leave it at saying that it obviously needs to be a longer kind of sock. If i had to make a recommendation i would say that the best sock for this would either be the boy scout hiking socks or any soccer/football socks. Because they tend to be made of a thicker material.
The length of the sock is important. Typically, the distance from the tip of your out stretched hand to your elbow is a good length. Any longer takes a while to get it swinging and too short will make it hard to use the centrifugal force that makes it effective. A Good Apocalyptic commando will adapt to the situation, adding an inch or taking it in a bit as conditions demand.
Fighting style
Obviously it is a clumsy weapon. Swinging it around in circles before hitting can add to the force, and in a pinch it can be thrown this way. Please note that throwing a sock is effective, David and Goliath style, however it is really hard to hit a target if you haven't practiced.
Hit them with the heavy part- easy, no? Yeah, you can get pretty far that way. But you need to seek a fluidity of motion. When one attack hits, spin the sock away from your enemy. The greatest weakness of this weapon, is how easy it is to pull it away. If you miss and the hard end goes past your target, it may wrap around and get stuck or pulled away.
Good luck and happy smashing!
Just in case you missed it...
