Unlikely Weapons #2 Sock full of Coins

TGIF my Apocalyptic Commandos! Today is a special day! My search of the Internets has shown that they are lacking in articles about socks full of coins... so...

When the world’s richest man falls to the ground, a baby alien exploding from his chest, Warren Buffet's fortune becomes just a pile of fancy green paper and cheap metal pieces. The invaders confiscating our weapon supply, from the White House bunker to the red light district gun shop. That is when a man’s resourcefulness becomes his key to survival. Fortunately, they are sure to overlook mankind’s most dangerous weapon components…

Socks and coins

Even when we were kids we would put a rolled up sock in another tube sock and we would hit our brothers, this was not child's play. It was training.

How to make

I'm not going to go in depth about which coins or socks contribute to the most effective weapon. A sock of pennies with equal mass as a sock of quarters will act about the same, or any hard heavy thing for that matter. My personal preferences is dollar coins or the 2 euro coins.
Heavy, sharp objects like nails, bolts and screws can do good damage as well, but may rip the sock.

Let's leave it at saying that it obviously needs to be a longer kind of sock. If i had to make a recommendation i would say that the best sock for this would either be the boy scout hiking socks or any soccer/football socks. Because they tend to be made of a thicker material.

The length of the sock is important. Typically, the distance from the tip of your out stretched hand to your elbow is a good length. Any longer takes a while to get it swinging and too short will make it hard to use the centrifugal force that makes it effective. A Good Apocalyptic commando will adapt to the situation, adding an inch or taking it in a bit as conditions demand.

Fighting style

Obviously it is a clumsy weapon. Swinging it around in circles before hitting can add to the force, and in a pinch it can be thrown this way. Please note that throwing a sock is effective, David and Goliath style, however it is really hard to hit a target if you haven't practiced.

Hit them with the heavy part- easy, no? Yeah, you can get pretty far that way. But you need to seek a fluidity of motion. When one attack hits, spin the sock away from your enemy. The greatest weakness of this weapon, is how easy it is to pull it away. If you miss and the hard end goes past your target, it may wrap around and get stuck or pulled away.

Good luck and happy smashing!

Just in case you missed it...
